Treehouse Residence
2024
Truckee, CA
The design of this custom residential home is inspired by the clients’ vision for a unique and creative space that reflects future possibilities for the area while blending seamlessly with the Truckee environment. During the initial site visit, capturing the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding forest became a key design principle. Influenced by a boulder nestled in the earth and a towering tree, these natural features were thoughtfully integrated into the design to symbolize the site’s essence from the start.
The goal was to create a home that harmonizes with its surroundings, celebrating the area’s beauty while embracing sustainable design principles and fostering a strong connection with nature. Elements like vertical wood accents enhance the interplay of light filtering through the trees, amplifying the site’s natural ambiance. The entryway slows visitors down, encouraging reflection and appreciation of the environment.
The overall design aims to immerse residents in the forest, creating a tranquil retreat. It prioritizes moments of pause, allowing individuals to appreciate each space’s unique character, while maintaining a logical flow through the home. The design also reflects the serene beauty of snow, with radiant floor heating for comfort and efficiency. A holistic approach ensures the landscape is revitalized with native species, following the site’s natural topography with minimal grading, while ventilation studies ensure fresh mountain air throughout.
